On Packing and Minimalism

When your choice of possessions for 3 months is limited to what you can fit in your bag and carry on your back, efficiency is the #1 concern. I attempted to pack lightly (full packing list below), but ended up utilizing every available crevice of my bags.

After only a few days on the trip, I actually feel as though I brought too much stuff. My bags are packed to the brim, which makes it difficult to get what I need quickly – especially in the middle of the night in a dark hostel room full of sleeping strangers. Further, there’s little room at this point to pick anything up along the way. I would have preferred to have some empty space in case there are any items that I find meaningful and would like to bring home. I’m operating under the assumption that I’ll leave / ditch at least some of the below as I find I don’t use it enough to necessitate keeping it around. This has been a true exercise in minimalism, which has led me to find that the more things you have, the more things you have to worry about.
